Lucy Goes Swimming!
Katie and Tootsie Osgood have been going out to Middleburg, Virginia to swim at the Northern Virginia Animal Swim Center. In June of 2004, Lucy and I tagged along. Lucy saw the water and lit up. She hadn't been swimming in over two years, but she was ready to jump right in. Lucy grew up near the Chesapeake Bay, and we're told she was a good and enthusiastic swimmer. I mentioned that to Roger, the owner of the swim center, and he said to just let her loose and see what she did. She went right into the closest pool, which is a smaller one used to train dogs to swim. She swam the length of that pool, got out, shook off, and headed for the big pool that's also used for rehabilitating horses. She retrieved bumpers for a half an hour. The only problem was getting her to take rest breaks.
The lighting isn't great in the swim center and the girls were moving, of course, so the photos are quite fuzzy. Here are photos of the participants in better lighting. They're followed by some pics of the girls in the water.
