I graduated from Alexandria Hospital School of Nursing in 1976. The school opened in 1894 and closed in 1987. Mine was the last class to live in Carter Hall, the last class to wear starched cotton uniforms, and the last class to do clinical rotations in the old Duke Street facility. We were also the last students to take classes entirely at AHSN; the classes that followed us took their sciences and social sciences through Northern Virginia Community College.
If you're a graduate of AHSN or if you were faculty or staff at the school, please drop me an e-mail at bobbi at nursebobbi dot net. (The address is written out to prevent spamming. Just leave out the spaces and replace "at" with @ and the "dot" with a period.) I've set up a closed Facebook Group, Alexandria Hospital School of Nursing (AHSN) Alumni, to allow AHSN alumni to keep in touch. Faculty and staff are also welcome. Let me know if you'd like to join us!
After the school closed, 17 boxes of material were sent to the University of Virginia. There's a guide to the AHSN Collection, including a history of the school, on the Virginia Heritage website.
Here are two items that I still have:
I have a few photos from my school days on my Flickr site as well.
